Known as an annual highlight for both Lancaster and the national jazz scene, the festival boasts an array of high-caliber headliners, free shows, workshops, talks, walks, and more.

The 2023 line-up features an impressive roster of artists, including John Pope, Romarna Campbell, Laura Cole, and Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band, showcasing the best contemporary jazz from across the UK, alongside outstanding local and community talent.

The festival will be hosted at six city center venues, offering a weekend filled with extraordinary music experiences. The programme presents a fusion of the UK’s contemporary jazz scene, blending emerging, established, and community artists side by side.

Highlights include an opening night performance by Laura Cole’s Pursuance project, followed by three days of free access gigs at Lancaster hotspot Kanteena. Additionally, the festival hub, The Storey, will host a series of intimate ticketed gigs featuring some of the finest artists in the scene. Lancaster Priory will present a delightful double bill featuring Richard Jones Trio and Engawa. Finally, the Artist in Residence, bassist John Pope, will conclude the weekend with exquisite new music from his quartet.

This year’s festival will also feature an “Innovation Hub,” sponsored by Groundswell Innovations, where audiences can expect captivating collaborations, pop-ups, talks, and surprises throughout the weekend.

The festival’s mission to support artists is highlighted by the expanded “Inspire Artist” conference day, supported by UKSPF. The dedicated space will provide opportunities for artists to network, engage in conversations about their practice, and connect with key industry insiders.

Festival Director, Lucy Woolley, expressed excitement about this year’s programme, which builds on the festival’s recent growth. With a diverse range of audio-visuals, electronic crossovers, and hip-hop inspired sounds, the line-up truly reflects the vibrancy of the UK Jazz Scene.
