Program Overview of Japan Paid Internship Program 2024

The METI Japan Internship Program is a fully funded internship offered by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students from OECD/DAC countries. The program does not require an IELTS score and there is no application fee. Benefits include coverage of airfare, meals, accommodation, and a stipend for living expenses.

Interns will be placed in various companies in Japan. The program matches interns’ skills and preferences with suitable host companies. In 2023, 94 companies hosted 107 interns.

  4. Educational Status:
    • Students: Must submit a recommendation letter and an enrollment certificate.
    • Graduates: Must submit a recommendation letter and a graduation certificate.
  5. Availability: Must be able to commit to the internship full-time as per the program’s timeline.
  6. Additional Requirements: Certifications in JLPT, CEFR, TOEIC, TOEFL, or IELTS.
  7. Prior Involvement: Must not have participated in the program between FY2016 and FY2023.

Internship Options

  1. In-Person Internships: Work on-site at small to medium-sized Japanese companies.
  2. Online Internships: Participate remotely from your home country.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an internship plan with the manager.
  • Participate in pre-training, follow-up training, and a wrap-up presentation.
  • Maintain regular communication with the program office and host company.
  • Submit various required documents and reports before, during, and after the internship.
  • Participate in Japanese language training if available.
  • Consider permanent positions if offered by the host company.
  • Act appropriately as part of a project supported by Japanese government public funds.
