Overview
The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship supports women from developing and emerging economies pursuing PhD or post-doctoral research in STEM fields at leading universities worldwide. Launched in 2004, this program aims to enhance scientific and technological advancement in underrepresented regions by empowering women scientists.
With an annual grant of $50,000, the Faculty for the Future Fellowship facilitates significant contributions to STEM disciplines and fosters gender parity in science. Since its inception, the program has awarded fellowships to 863 women from 90 countries.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Faculty for the Future Fellowship, you must:
- Gender and Citizenship: Be a female citizen of a developing or emerging economy where women are underrepresented in STEM disciplines. Applicants with secondary citizenship from a developed country are ineligible. The grant will be discontinued if you acquire citizenship of a developed country during the award period.
- Educational Status: Be preparing for PhD or post-doctoral studies in STEM. Master’s level studies are not funded. You must be enrolled, admitted, or have applied to a host university/research institute abroad.
- Academic Record: Hold an excellent academic record.
- Commitment to Home Country: Demonstrate a commitment to returning to your home country or region after completing your studies to contribute to socio-economic development. This may include pursuing an academic or research position, becoming a STEM entrepreneur, or contributing to public sector STEM policy-making.
- Teaching Experience: Have a proven record of teaching experience and a commitment to encouraging girls and women into STEM.
- Leadership and Outreach: Exhibit leadership skills, active community outreach, and a track record in promoting STEM among women.
Note: Schlumberger employees are not eligible to apply.
Selection Process
The selection process includes five rounds:
- Initial Screening: Compliance with eligibility criteria and overall application quality.
- First Shortlist Review: Scoring based on academic performance, references, research proposal quality, commitment to teaching, research relevance, and the quality of the host university.
- Second Shortlist Review: Evaluation by the Schlumberger Foundation scientific committee focusing on research proposal quality and relevance.
- Interviews: Telephone interviews with the Schlumberger Foundation Board of Directors and Executive Management.
- Final Selection: Grant recipients are selected by the Schlumberger Foundation Board of Directors.
