About Princeton in Africa (PiAf):
Princeton in Africa has a long-standing history of partnering with organizations that contribute to sustainable development across various sectors in Africa. Fellows are placed with host organizations in diverse fields such as education, public health, social entrepreneurship, and more, allowing them to leverage their skills and gain invaluable experience.

Eligibility Criteria:

General Fellowship Program:

  • Open to young professionals and undergraduates graduating by June 2025.
  • Must hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. from a U.S.-accredited university.
  • English fluency (CEFR Level C1 or higher) is required; French is an asset for some roles.
  • Must be under 35 years old during the fellowship (until August 2026).
  • Valid passport through August 2026.
  • Must not be enrolled in any graduate or doctoral programs during the fellowship period.

Nexus Program:

  • Open to young professionals and undergraduates graduating by June 2025.
  • Must have an undergraduate degree, master’s, or Ph.D. from an African university.
  • Must not be enrolled in any graduate or doctoral programs during the fellowship period.
  • English fluency (CEFR Level C1 or higher) is required; French is preferred for some roles.
  • Must be under 35 years old throughout the fellowship (until August 2026).
  • Must have a valid passport through August 2026.
  • Must be a citizen and current resident of an African country (dual U.S. citizens are ineligible).

Participating in the Princeton in Africa Fellowship is more than just a job; it’s an investment in your future. Here’s what you need to know:

Your Responsibilities:

  • A $350 program placement fee upon acceptance.
  • Covering round-trip airfare to and from your host country.
  • Pre-departure medical expenses (e.g., immunizations and malaria prevention).
  • Possible contributions to visa or work permit costs depending on the host country.

What PiAf and Partner Organizations Provide:

  • Housing and a living stipend to cover essential expenses.
  • Certain visas and work permits.
  • Comprehensive insurance, including medical, medical evacuation, and security evacuation coverage.
  • Partial travel allowance and support for meals/housing during a mid-year retreat.

Note: The stipend is designed to cover living expenses during the fellowship and is not intended for personal expenses back home.

Application Process:

To apply for the Princeton in Africa Fellowship, you’ll need the following:

  1. Online Application: Complete the application form on the PiAf website.
  2. Resume or CV: Submit a resume or CV (maximum 2 pages) with your application.
  3. Unofficial Transcript: Attach an unofficial transcript in English (PDF format) to your application.
  4. Official Transcript: Request your university to send an official transcript directly to piafapp@princetoninafrica.org.
  5. Letter of Recommendation: One letter of recommendation should be submitted directly by your recommender via the online form.
  6. (Nexus Applicants Only) Proof of University Enrollment: Include an enrollment verification document, a scanned diploma, or a letter from a university official.

  • Tuesday, Sept 17th, 2024 (12:00-1:30 PM Eastern): Info session for prospective applicants.
  • Sunday, October 27th, 2024 (11:59 PM Eastern): Application deadline.
  • Early December 2024: Notification of interview selection.
  • Early January 2025: Virtual fellowship interviews.
  • February-May 2025: Ongoing acceptance and placements.
  • June 6-8, 2025: MANDATORY Virtual Orientation.
  • June 10-August 8, 2025: Fellowships begin.
  • June 10-August 8, 2026: Fellowships conclude.
